Why does Courtroom Experience Matter for a Divorce Lawyer?

Why does Courtroom Experience Matter for a Divorce Lawyer?

By M. J. Goodwin

Some lawyers love to go to Court.  I am one of those lawyers.  The trial process has intrigued and interested me since I saw my first trial at the age of 19.  I was still in college at Clemson University and got pulled for jury duty!  Thirty years later, I still love trials!  I count myself fortunate to  have been a participant in thousands of hearings over the past 23 years.  But what does that mean for my clients?

It gives me experience.  It gives me perspective.  It gives me a frame of reference that someone unfamiliar with the adversarial system lacks.  I have represented Plaintiffs and Defendants; husbands and wives; mothers and fathers.  I have represented DSS and DSS defendants.  I even prosecuted DJJ cases and have represented children charged with crimes.  I have also served as Guardian ad Litem in well over 1000 cases.  This history allows me to look at a client’s particular situation and give a range of possible Court outcomes that are fairly close to what a Judge orders in their particular situation.  I am not saying that I am right 100% of the time; nobody is.  But I am in the ballpark with most of my predictions.  It’s not magic.  It’s experience.  This experience allows me to help my clients evaluate their options and helps them settle their cases, which saves them money, aggravation and grief in the long run.  And it gives them confidence that if we need to have a trial in a given situation, I have the experience necessary to do it effectively.

Choosing any type of lawyer to represent you is not that easy. And in choosing the best, bear in your mind that you must opt for one that has good grasps about your specific case as this will guarantee that your chosen lawyer is very much aware about the ins and out of the said case.
